    Whether you are a recent graduate or a practicing counselor, our licensing framework ensures that you meet the highest standards of psychological care and therapeutic excellence.

Licensure through CICN is open to:

  • Graduates of Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related fields
  • Practicing counselors seeking professional recognition
  • International practitioners seeking Nigerian accreditation
  • CICN-trained students who have completed required modules
  1. Enroll in an Approved Program: Take one of CICN’s accredited certification, diploma, or
    professional development programs.
  2. Complete Supervised Practicum: Fulfill practical hours under the guidance of a CICN
    approved supervisor or training center.
  3. Sit for the Licensing Assessment: Pass the CICN Licensing Examination (CLE), covering
    ethics, theory, techniques, and clinical skills.
  4. Apply for a Counseling License: Submit your portfolio, transcripts, and references for
    review by the Licensing Committee.
    5. Receive Your License & Seal: Successful candidates will be issued an official CICN license
    number, certificate, and practitioner seal.
  • CICN licenses are issued under the following categories:

    • Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC)
    • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
    • Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist (LCP)
    • Licensed Trauma Therapist
    • Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)

    Each license reflects the scope of training, experience, and clinical focus.

  • All CICN licensed counselors must:

    • Abide by CICN’s Professional Code of Ethics
    • Engage in ongoing professional development
    • Renew their license every 3 years with proof of CPD hours and good standing
